Mindful Bernadette
Mindfulness means different things to different people and there are many ways to practice paying attention with kindness towards yourself.
Bernadette C. Smith, M.Ed., is an experienced mindfulness educator and coach bringing her enthusiasm for mindfulness practices to pre-K through college age students, adults, educators, parents, those in recovery, and anyone interested!
After 10 years of teaching mindfulness, Bernadette continues to observe that mindfulness can support everyone at any stage, no matter what they are experiencing in life.
She has over 3 decades experience teaching young people from pre-school through college. Since 2018, she brought 8 week mindfulness sessions to more than 2900 regular and special ed students, as well as their teachers and parents, in 14 schools in PA and DE.
After teaching mindfulness to her students at Strath Haven Middle School, Bernadette noticed positive behavioral changes, which sparked her passion for bringing these practices to a variety of educational settings.
After some children brought these practices home, Bernadette was invited to work with families, other small groups, and individuals. Bernadette supports groups of high schoolers interested in stress management, those interested in mindful eating, and new moms looking for a new understanding of how to be in their new world.
Besides all things mindful, Bernadette enjoys nature, hiking with her husband, travel, historical sites, the movies, and visiting her grown children, and grand-daughter.

“The most amazing gains I observed were in the emotionally neediest children who started to recognize their feelings and were able to use the strategies taught to calm themselves down.
Since COVID 19 I remind my students about the strategies Mrs. Smith taught them. You know the program is meaningful and effective when a 6 yr. old shares through a chat, "Mrs. Bullen I miss you, but I am doing balloon breathing and it helps me.”
— Mrs. Rhonda Bullen, Boothwyn Elementary School
